Dear Matt,
All your critiques are so wonderful, always supportive and always teaching. This one is no exception, and since on Mondays with Matt we have been working on our value skills recently, your discussion in this piece does contribute a lot.

Your structured approach in any critique helps to train the members eyes to see as an artist and critique our own art work.

I am very happy about this week's quote!
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend,
Buddy

Dear Lisa,
Thank you for sharing your wonderful art work with us. I really did enjoy Matt's critique on this and hope it helped you out like it did help me.

May I ask you, if you know this man? On first view, I thought it’s the younger Morgan Freeman, but that's most likely because I have seen several drawings of him.

Like Teri, with the smoothness of the piece, I didn’t believe you workedwith pastels, but this might be digital art. I am always astonished what can be achieved with soft pastels though.

Unlike Matt, I am having the impression there are two light sources. The very light background to the upper left could be a reflection of sun on the wall from a nearby window to the right. Just a guess.

I agree with Matt that the values on the left side of the portrait (from the viewers point) do seem a little to harsh, but with soft pastels this can be easily fixed, if you liked.

You did a great job!

In reply to <a href="https://thevirtualinstructor.com/members/members-minute-6-8-26#comment-10374">Hajra Meeks</a>.

Hello Lisa,

What a wonderful portrait. I would not have thought this was pastels, The expression and the emotion has so much expression.

Thank you for sharing your artwork with us.

Just FYI Matt: the thumbnails for the last two critique vids are switched (this link has a thumbnail of a bird but a vid critique of a figural piece and vice versa). :p Sorry, just pointing out a small website fix (otherwise your whole website is just astounding in how much you have up here and how clear all the navigation is, a herculean endeavor by any accounting.) Left a comment on the other page where the bird vid critique is, thanks so much and have a great week!
