I would like to know more about how the blending works as well. Based on trial and error, it seems like you would need to use cleaned or separate blending stumps–or fingers–for each color. I had an issue with this lesson trying to blend light colors when I’ve got a darker color on my fingers.

I really enjoyed this process!!! I’ve used other mediums, but am new to soft pastels. I’ve watched some people on YouTube, but could not work out how to use them. My mountains here turned out so well. You really do need to just take a big breath and keep going, don’t you? And such patience. hahahaha. But I am pleased with my first full landscape. It isn’t as good as Matt’s, but I wouldn’t expect it to be since I’m a beginner. Thanks so much, Matt, if you read this. I’m keen-bean to do the rest of the course. I think by the end, I’ll be even better. 🙂

In Lesson 2 it says the materials used are soft pastels, NuPastels, and pastel pencils. However, during the demonstration it does not indicate which type of these you are using at any given time. Can you share how we would ow the difference ? Thank you.

Slowly but surely the illusion of teaching how to use pastels reveals itself to be just that, an illusion. This is the fourth course I’ve done by the virtual instructor and by far the worst.

That was very beautiful and it was satisfying to watch. And now I know why my mountains always looked right there on top of each other. Making it lighter to dark and then adding that white line in between the mountains helped a lot with creating the illusion of space. Which was basically the main thing I was lacking.
