Lesson Description

In this final module of the Pastel Landscape Mastery course, Matt brings everything together with a thoughtful review of the key concepts covered throughout the series. Designed to reinforce learning and provide clarity, this lesson serves as both a summary and a springboard for continued artistic growth. Students are reminded of the essential techniques and principles that form the foundation of successful pastel landscape drawing.

Reviewing Core Concepts

Matt revisits the most important ideas explored throughout the course, including landscape structure, atmospheric perspective, and the use of light and value to create depth. Techniques such as layering, scumbling, feathering, and both dry and wet wash applications are briefly reviewed, helping students connect each method to the broader process of creating a finished piece.

This review reinforces how each lesson builds upon the last, giving students a clearer understanding of how all the components work together in a cohesive workflow.

Reflecting on Growth

Students are encouraged to reflect on their progress and recognize how their skills have developed over the course. By comparing early work to more recent drawings, artists can see tangible improvements in their understanding of color, composition, and technique.

This reflection not only builds confidence but also highlights areas where further practice may be beneficial.

Developing a Plan for Continued Success

In addition to reviewing past material, Matt provides guidance for moving forward. Students are encouraged to continue practicing regularly, experiment with different subjects, and apply the techniques learned in new ways. The lesson emphasizes the importance of consistency and exploration in developing artistic skill.

Suggestions are provided for creating a personal study plan, allowing students to continue refining their abilities beyond the course.

Moving Forward with Confidence

This concluding lesson brings a sense of completion while also opening the door to future growth. With a strong foundation in pastel techniques and landscape principles, students are well-equipped to continue their artistic journey.

By the end of this module, students leave with a clear understanding of what they’ve learned and a confident plan for applying these skills in their own work, ensuring continued progress and creative success.

  3. I am a new member…just this week. I was left all my mother’s art supplies, oils, brushes etc., and the most wonderful collection of pastels. I have played with them, but am now inspired to work hard to master this medium. I love the Australian bush, and my mother did some wonderful oils and pastels depicting it. I want to do the same. I thank you for this wonder site. Regards Ursula

  4. Thank you Matt, I have just enjoyed your 15 part series on pastels and really appreciate your style and ability to focus on and teach us what really matters. Also congratulations on your great conclusion! I had no hesitation on subscribing to an annual membership.

  5. Once again, a truly great learning experience! You are an awesome teacher and artist. Although I find this medium to be messy, (I seem to be spending more time cleaning than drawing), I am in love with the vibrancy of the colors. I actually just bought a landscape set of the panpastels and saw your video on using the panpastels after completing this course. That seems to be a lot less messy and I prefer using the tools instead of my fingers.I

I just LOVE your courses! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Every course I taken so far is so much fun and so chock full of information, that one can’t help but improve over time.

    Thanks again.
